Lara Loves… Money Well Spent

I love a bargain as much as the next clotheshorse but sometimes you just know when you’re going to get your money’s worth - be it the $10 tee shirt that lasts three washes before it does that twisty thing that tee shirts do; or the $500 boots that you resole every winter forever. Yes! the ‘investment piece’!
Your investment pieces are categorised so by their ability to just keep on giving. And to me that not only means that they’ll last and wear well but that they will continue to bring you joy. From a black silk dress that goes from wedding to beach (and survives being handwashed many, many times) to crushed velvet ankle boots that add a touch of Bowie to anything… and let’s be honest, most things can do with a touch of Bowie.
Today I’m wearing an Ioanna Kourbela vest - the Suppleness Gillet. It’s black, fuzzy, and cropped perfectly just below the waist. Ioanna Kourbela seems to be a label built around the principles of foundation, investment and statement pieces. This is investment with just a touch of statement. I’m already getting a sense of it’s wearability and versatility. It’s difficult to see it as exclusively a winter item - today I’m wearing it over my wear-anywhere black silk dress, shoulders bare with white slip-on sneakers - swap my sneakers for heels and it’s an elegant evening ensemble for warmer months. Right now you could throw it on with jeans and a tee shirt and sub out the tee for your woollies as it gets colder.
I can imagine my mother (a stylish 64 year old pixie with an eye for classic pieces) wearing this vest for years and years and although we have quite different individual style there are occasionally crossover items that we both covet - this will be one of them. And I think that’s what I love about it so much - it’s both quirky and classic; functional and fun. Wonder if mum will want to do a time-share?
